History of the Faculty of Languages
In order to ensure the implementation of the Resolution No. PQ-4623 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated February 27, 2020 “On measures to further develop the field of pedagogical education”, as well as to train competitive personnel for the pedagogical education sector, improve the quality of education, introduce advanced Finnish educational technologies into the field, and establish an effective system for training highly qualified specialists with modern knowledge and pedagogical technology skills, the Resolution No. 408 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 30, 2021 “On measures to organize the activities of the Uzbekistan–Finland Pedagogical Institute of Samarkand State University” was adopted.
Based on the Resolution No. PQ-289 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 21, 2022, the Uzbekistan–Finland Pedagogical Institute began operating as an independent higher education institution.
According to the Resolution No. 9 of the Academic Council of the Uzbekistan–Finland Pedagogical Institute dated July 3, 2023, the Faculty of Languages was originally established in 2021 under the name “Faculty of Foreign Languages and Humanities”. In 2023, it was renamed the “Faculty of Philology”, and in 2024 it was reorganized as the “Faculty of Languages”.
In the 2021–2022 academic year, Associate Professor Albina Suratovna Abdullayeva served as Dean of the Faculty; in the 2022–2023 academic year, Associate Professor Sherzod Toychiyevich Normuminov; and in the 2023–2024 academic year, Associate Professor Mirzaali Asfandiyorovich Fayziyev held the position of Dean.
Since September 4, 2024, PhD Iroda Baxodirovna Utayeva has been serving as Dean of the Faculty.
The Faculty of Languages is a team with strong academic potential, whose members continuously work on self-improvement. Currently, a total of 2,040 students are studying at the faculty.
At present, more than 80 qualified professors and teachers are actively working at the Faculty of Languages.
Various student clubs operate under each department of the faculty. Under the Department of Foreign Languages, the “Happy English” club focuses on teaching foreign languages and involves 112 students. Under the Department of Russian Language and Literature, the “Linguists” club (85 students) and the “Elegant Literature” club (126 students) operate. Under the Department of Uzbek Language and Literature, clubs such as “Yog‘du” and “Young Linguist” are active. In addition, the number of students holding national or international foreign language certification amounts to 146.
An annual work plan for youth engagement and spiritual, educational, and moral activities has been approved at the faculty. Activities aimed at organizing students’ leisure time meaningfully, strengthening their ideological immunity, protecting them from various ideological threats, and forming a healthy spiritual environment are carried out through initiatives such as “Zakovat”, “Debate Club”, “Reading Club”, “Cheerful and Clever”, and the “Student Theater Studio”.
Additionally, activities are conducted to promote national values and traditions, preserve and popularize the rich cultural heritage of our ancestors, celebrate national holidays and historical dates, carry out awareness campaigns through mass media, organize educational work in student dormitories and private residences, and implement social protection measures. Work is also underway to identify talented students and prepare them for national subject Olympiads and state scholarships.
The main goal of the spiritual and educational work carried out at the faculty is to educate students in the spirit of loyalty to national and universal values, broaden their spiritual and aesthetic worldview, enhance their intellectual capacity, protect them from harmful mass influences, guide them away from such paths, and foster them as devoted citizens of the New Uzbekistan.
The Faculty plays a leading role in training highly qualified specialists for the national education system and makes a significant contribution to the socio-economic, scientific, and pedagogical development of the country. In particular, it provides close support in developing educational literature and regulatory documents necessary for teaching Uzbek language and literature, Russian language and literature, and foreign languages, as well as in improving the professional skills of school teachers.
The Faculty consists of three departments:
- Department of Uzbek Language and Literature
- Department of Russian Language and Literature
- Department of Foreign Languages
The Faculty trains bachelor’s degree students in the following fields of study:
– 60111400 – Uzbek Language and Literature;
– 60111700 – Russian Language in Non-Russian Language Groups;
– 60110800 – Native Language and Literature (Russian);
– 60111800 – Foreign Language and Literature.
The Faculty of Languages also offers master’s degree programs in the following specialty:
– 70111401 – Master’s program in Uzbek Language and Literature.
