HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
Based on Resolution No. 408 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 30, 2021, “On measures to organize the activities of the Uzbek–Finnish Pedagogical Institute at Samarkand State University,” the Uzbek–Finnish Pedagogical Institute of Samarkand State University was established and began operating as an independent institute in 2022.
In accordance with Decree No. PF-73 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated April 28, 2025, the name of the Uzbek–Finnish Pedagogical Institute was changed to the Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute.
PhD, Professor Eshnazarov Juraqul served as Head of the Department of “Theory and Methods of Physical Culture” from August 10, 2021, to September 7, 2024.
PhD (DSc), Professor Khaydarov Bakhtiyor Tojiyevich served as Head of the Department of “Theory and Methods of Physical Culture” from September 7, 2024, to December 12, 2025.
PhD, Associate Professor Dusanov Uchkun Suyunovich has been serving as Head of the Department of “Physical Culture and Sports” since December 12, 2025.
The professors and teachers of the department provide instruction in all subjects for students studying in full-time, part-time, and evening forms of education in the bachelor’s programs “Physical Culture,” “Sports Activities,” and “Physical Education and Sports in Preschool and Primary Education,” as well as for students of the master’s program in the specialty 70111201 – Theory and Methodology of Physical Education and Sports.
In the 2025–2026 academic year, the Department of Physical Culture and Sports employs 32 full-time faculty members, 3 internal part-time instructors, and 3 external part-time instructors.
Among them, 2 are professors holding the degree of Doctor of Science (DSc), 1 is a professor holding the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), 5 are associate professors, 2 are senior lecturers, and 26 are assistant lecturers. Currently, the scientific potential of the department is 26 percent.
To date, the faculty members of the department have prepared 14 textbooks, 27 study guides, 10 monographs, and 6 teaching manuals, collections, and instructional materials. They have published more than 100 scientific articles and over 300 popular-science articles.
A scientific circle entitled “Science for Sports and a Healthy Life” operates under the department.
MAIN TASKS OF THE DEPARTMENT
- Implementation of activities in educational, educational-methodological, spiritual-enlightenment, scientific, and scientific-methodological areas;
- Teaching students the theoretical and practical foundations of physical culture and sports, enabling them to apply the acquired knowledge in practice and develop professional skills;
- Improving the functional literacy of future physical education teachers;
- Developing students’ logical and critical thinking skills.
