HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

Based on Resolution No. 408 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 30, 2021, "On measures to organize the activities of the Uzbek-Finnish Pedagogical Institute at Samarkand State University," the Uzbek-Finnish Pedagogical Institute of Samarkand State University was established. The Department of Uzbek Language and Literature and Social Sciences and Humanities was also established within the institute's Faculty of Foreign Languages and Humanities.
The first head of the department was Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Zh. Ya. Yakhshilikov.
During the establishment of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities, the department employed 30 full-time professors and teachers, and 22 part-time teachers. In the 2023–2024 academic year, the department employed two professors, two associate professors, three doctors of philosophy (PhD) in historical sciences, one senior lecturer, and 12 teaching assistants.
Following the structural division of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Department of History was re-established as an independent structural unit on September 4, 2024.
In the 2025–2026 academic year, the Department of History will have 18 full-time positions, including: one Doctor of Philosophy (DSc), professor; one Candidate of Sciences (PhD), associate professor; two Doctors of Philosophy (PhD), associate professors; one Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), acting associate professor; one Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), assistant; 13 teaching assistants. There is also one head of a classroom.
In the 2025/2026 academic year, the Department of History is conducting research on the topic: "Formation and Development of National Statehood: A Scientific and Analytical Approach Based on the Historical Experience of Uzbekistan."
Since October 2, 2024, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Yu. Yu. Isomuiddinov has served as acting head of the department.
Members of the department are actively involved in the institute's social activities. In particular, senior lecturer Ibodar Gafforovna Sattorova serves as an advisor to the rector on women's issues; assistant professor Ulugbek Zufarovich Saipov is the deputy dean of the Faculty of Philology for youth affairs and spiritual and educational activities. Members of the department also actively participate in socio-political events held at the institute, regional, and city levels. The department's faculty teaches all subjects for students enrolled in the program 60111100 — History, in full-time, part-time, and evening programs.
The department offers a master's program in:
70111101 — Methods of Teaching Social Sciences and Humanities.
18 master's students are enrolled in the program "Methods of Teaching Social Sciences and Humanities (History)" in the first and second years.

		Akhmedova Zarnigor Farxodovna is a lecturer at the Department of History of the Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute.
